The utilization of upcoming gigascale integration, teraflop computing and terabit communication technologies in innovative electronic systems requires intensive research and also matching educational activities.
The need for advanced electronics forming the base of highly complex electronic systems remains evident in areas as in communication and computing networks, system miniaturization and ultrabroadband processing and communication. The dominant and growing position of electronic systems in the national and global economies as well as in the social infrastructure justifies an increased engagement in research, education and industrial collaboration.
